Women Don't Just Hold Up Half the Sky. We Build the Homes Under It. Published: March 8, 2026 | destination.living
There's a quote that's been floating around for decades: women hold up half the sky.
It's meant to be empowering. And it is. But I'd like to add something to it.
Women don't just hold things up. We build things. We plant roots. We create homes — literally and figuratively — out of nothing but vision, grit, and an unshakeable belief that something better is possible.
On this International Women's Day, that's what I'm thinking about.
The Conversations That Took Courage
I've been in real estate for over 30 years. And in that time, I've had thousands of conversations — with buyers, sellers, neighbors, colleagues, and friends.
The ones that changed me most weren't the negotiations or the closings. They were the quiet, honest conversations with women who were standing at a crossroads.
The single mom who wasn't sure she could qualify. The woman returning to the workforce who needed a fresh start in a new neighborhood. The retiree selling the home she raised her family in, tearful and brave and ready for whatever came next.
Every single one of them showed up. Every single one of them did the hard thing.
That takes courage. And courage, I've learned, is not the absence of fear — it's making the move anyway.
Grit Is the Strategy
We talk a lot in business about strategy. Systems. Frameworks. Funnels.
But here's what I've seen work, time and again, in real estate and in life:
Showing up fully is the strategy.
Not perfectly. Not without doubt. But fully — with your whole self, your real voice, your actual story.
The women I admire most in this industry aren't the ones with the flashiest marketing (though some of them have that too). They're the ones who are consistent. Who keep going when the market shifts. Who build relationships, not just transactions. Who understand that every conversation is an opportunity to make someone feel seen.
That's not soft. That's powerful.
What We're Building Next
I founded Destination Bay Ridge because I believed in this community — in the people who live here, shop here, raise families here, and build lives here.
And lately, through the work I'm doing with The Conversation Advantage, I'm more convinced than ever that the right words at the right moment can change everything — for a client, a colleague, a community.
That's the work. That's what I'm here for.
So on this International Women's Day, I want to raise a glass — or a coffee, because let's be real — to every woman who's ever made a hard phone call, signed the paperwork, asked for what she was worth, or simply refused to give up.
You're not just holding up half the sky.
You're building what's underneath it.
And that matters. 🤍
Happy International Women's Day
Whether you're a buyer, a seller, a fellow agent, a business owner, a neighbor, or just someone finding her footing — I see you. I'm cheering for you.
If there's something I can help you with — a real estate question, a conversation about next steps, or just a resource to point you in the right direction — I'm always here.
